Sentinel is most likely the strongest character in the whole game, with 100% corner combos, a very annoying semi infinite, strong regular combo, one of the best DHC supers in the game, he's a good anchor and a great main assist. Sentinel has the best rushdown in the game for a very heavy character, the best fly mode, and just a very good charcter to know how to use. Sentinel's main game comes from flying and how it helps you out, his flight mode is the fastest in the game, it can be used in rushdown, to avoid things and extend combos to a degree that it will kill someone. Sentinel can be paired with a lot of people who can compliment his abilites very well, Captain Commando's AAA, Doom's AAA, Cable (as an assist), Magneto (as an assist), a lot of people. Sentinel's most widely used Ground assist (Sentinel Force, Drones) can help out with rushdown, act as an anchor for traps and chips very well. I like using Sentinel because he can really challenge your mind, unless you have a fast pixie character to rely on (Magneto, Storm, Wolverine) it will be hard to catch Sentinel in fly mode since he can fly out faster than you can do anything else. The problems that arrise with Sentinel is that well, he's big, he's slow and his moves do have some noticable lag time attached to them, which any character with a good punishing super can capitalize on (Storm, Cable). Aside from those factors, he's pretty much as good as the next character. Flying Flying is a big part of Sentinel's game since it acts as an avoidance tool, rushdown and trapping. Assists to use with Sentinel's flight that help the most are: Blackheart AAA Commando AAA Cable AAA (comes out FAST) Doom AAA (Able to lock down in corner, refer to my Doom guide) Cammy AAA Ken AAA Basically any invincible AAA or fast AAA can help out Sentinel to the point where he can put the major hurt on you. Unfly mode (thanks to ShadyK and Genghis) is a special mode that allows an extra move to be performed when you unfly. Unfly mode is activated when Sentinel is hit by a move that doesn't flip him on his back (launchers, Cable's AAA), so say you unfly, you're then allowed to have an extra action, be it a block, move or an assist, after that, you're then free to refly. Basic combos that involve fly are pretty simple, there's the simple stomp combo, LK, HK, LP Rocket Punch, LK + Assist, HK, or LP, LP, HP. You want to be smart when using fly against people who can seriously hurt you though, Cable being the biggest threat, uncalculated fly = AHVBed in the face = Dead Sentinel. Either way, flying is good to use during the match, but only when it's very smart to use. Strategies -Ground Game -Sentinel's best ground combo is s.LP, s.LP, Rocket Punch XX HSF x5, easy to land and powerful. -Sentinel's HK drones can be used as a safe tag out, hold the button until they're on top of the opponent, release, while the bombs are hitting, tag out. -Sentinel's Ground assist is very good for assisting rushdown since they can serve as a distraction while you crossup with your point character. -Sentinel's Projectile assist is also very good, since it pressures the opponent very well and it comes out very fast and it can setup some combos when you hit. -Sentinel's launcher has a very high priority, it covers a lot of ground and it has super armor, I do like using this as an assist because of that reason, it does setup for Magneto very well and it is instantanious, so people don't know when to expect it -HSF x5 is performed as such: Rocket Punch XX HSF, s.HP, HP Rocket Punch XX HSF, repeat. You may need to use c.HP or take out a Rocket Punch to continue juggling. -Air Game -Sentinel's j.HP and j.HK have a lot of priority over other moves, especially a trade off, j.HP will usually win. -Start flight rushdown from a j.LK, j.HK + assist to cover yourself. -LP Rocket Punches to discourage people who try to follow you up and are at a distance. -Best air combo for Sentinel: Launch, sj.LP, sj.LK, sj.LP, sj.LK, fly, P throw, (HARD part coming up), sj.LK, sj.LK, Upwards Rocket Punch, sj.HK, unfly, j.HK. This combo will usually kill since the throw will reset the damage for the Rocket Punch, making it do a lot more damage than necessary. Guard Break Sentinel's guard break is incredibly hard to pull off, but it's possible to do. When the person is about to come in, launch LK Drones, and time them so the last one will hit the opponent, then launch or start a HSF x5 chain. OR j.HP XX Fly, LK, LK, Upwards Rocket Punch (courtesy of mastermind) Pretty short guide, but I only outlined the main facts for Sentinel, there's a lot more to know, but I don't use him that often, I'll come back to update this when I learn more. __________________ GeekBoy: No soup for you! Yeah, I might after I finish my list of characters, and since I use almost every character in CvS, I'll have a long line of guides. __________________ GeekBoy: No soup for you! I need a new team for MC2 so I'm probably going to add Sentinel to it. I am not sure if I am going to keep Magneto or not. I used to use Sentinel back in the day, but never really gave a shit about him other than his ground assist. I'll check out the Commando guide too. -m0nkey __________________ Infinites R Us.. Sentinel-A actually has a use. Mag can use it pretty well. Outside of corner: C. Short + Sent, C. Forward xx Hyper Grav is a combo. Opponent in corner: C. Short + Sent, C. Forward xx Tempest is an unmashable setup(and possible otg after). One of THE best assists for Sentinel's flying is Psylocke. Sentinel's fast flying gives you good cross up opportunities, and Psylocke sets up combos for it(see Viscant vs ShadyK #4 on clockw0rk.com). Storm and Spiral are also good. They clear the ground for Sent's stomp game. And Sent/Spiral chipping is INSANE. It's just as hard as the one you mentioned, but I have more dependability in this one: J.FP XX Fly > wk > wk XX Rocket Punch (upward) Regular jump towards them and hit FP immediately into fly, and then do the weak kicks into upward rocket punch. Given they don't push block you away, it's 95% guaranteed. __________________ -mm IP: Logged EvilKen02 I'm no scrub, I just suck Posts: 59 Registered: Mar 2001 Location: San Jose, CA, USA Posted: August 13th, 2001 10:14 PM doesn't sentinel have some killer 100% combo off a guard break? Ricky did it to me once on my akuma (right after he killed my Ryu). I realike akuma takes damage like a wussie, but the damage is still insane. All i remember is that after he guard breaked me, he did a basic air combo into a throw followed up by another air combo and another throw. No assists were used. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Could someone post it if they understand my incoherent ramblings?
